There’s a saying that we shape our homes, and then our homes shape us. I’ve always felt that.
Our house has been more than just a roof and walls — it’s been our basecamp. A place to roll in after big days in the hills, wash the bikes, feed the dog, and put the kettle on. A backdrop for laughter and the moments that make life feel full.
It’s given us so much. But living with MS has made me more aware of how deeply our surroundings influence how we move, how we rest, and how much energy everyday living demands. The details most people don’t notice — a step, a bath to climb in, a doorframe too narrow — they start to matter more.
Increasingly, more and more, the basecamp that once lifted us up, is holding us back.
What does “home” mean to you? Is it the building itself, the people, or the wider community? Has your home ever shaped the way you live your life — for better or worse? Do you feel rooted where you live, or do you ever dream of something different?
